OUR SERVICES: Campaigns

Campaigns matter and elections have consequences. The right elected official in a key role can determine whether we have greater opportunity and justice, or a backward drift into the future. Leaps of progress can be made when new progressive voices are elected and change the direction of public policy.

Groups across the spectrum have made increasing use of ballot initiatives to establish policy, leading to vigorous campaigns on both sides for the hearts, minds and votes of the populace.

Strategic campaigns based on research are our hallmark. An effective message targeted to the most persuadable voters can make the difference between victory and defeat. We have hands-on experience in campaigns at the local, state and federal levels, serving in a wide variety of roles, from running phone banks to running the show.

• Campaign management: As experienced campaign managers, we have put those skills to work as general consultants. We develop the campaign strategy, refine the message and oversee the campaign to make sure it stays on track.

• Communications: With an emphasis on message discipline, we have guided earned media efforts, including editorial boards, media event production and materials. We have led efforts to reach out to Spanish-language electronic and print media.

• Direct mail: Working with a team of designers and production experts, we produce high impact direct mail, including bilingual and Spanish-language mail. Our targeting finds the voters most likely to turn out to vote and most likely to be persuaded.

• Coalition building: Endorsements validate a campaign’s message and provide sources of money and volunteers. We have garnered statewide endorsements and mobilized constituency groups for candidate and ballot initiative campaigns.

Our candidate clients have included Barbara Boxer for U.S. Senate, Alex Padilla for State Senate, Nury Martinez for LAUSD School Board and Pamela Bensoussan for Chula Vista City Council.

Our ballot initiative clients have included No on 8 (California marriage equality), No on 4 (California parental notification), No on 330 (Washington medical malpractice), Yes on 87 (California clean energy), Yes on 937 (Washington clean energy) and Approve 67 (Washington insurance reform.)

PSP has received recognition for our work on campaigns. Rose Kapolczynski received the Public Affairs Professional of the Year Award from the American Association of Political Consultants for her work on Approve 67.
